Bawku Technical Institute (BTI) is one of Ghana’s leading public technical and vocational education institutions located in Bawku, the capital of the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Established in 1967 by the Roman Catholic Mission, the institute was established to provide technical and vocational skills training for the youth of Northern Ghana. BTI was the first technical institute established in the then Upper Region and has since remained a key center for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in northern Ghana. The institute is a mixed-gender institution that operates both boarding and day systems, providing opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to acquire employable skills and academic qualifications. BTI is currently under the Ghana TVET Service and is classified as a Category A technical institution, reflecting its significance within Ghana’s technical education landscape. Bawku Technical Institute offers a wide range of technical, vocational, engineering, business, and creative arts programmes. The current student population stands at 1,876 with staff strenght of 125 teaching staff and 37 non teaching staff. The vision of the institute is to become the leading technical institute in the region, and one of the best in the country by equipping trainees with knowledge, employable skills, and positive attitudes that enable them to become economically productive and socially responsible citizens. Its mission is to train highly proficient technical graduates with sound moral values through effective and sustainable teaching and learning approaches. Over the years, BTI has earned recognition for excellence in technical education, including being named the Best Performing Technical School in Ghana during the 2017 National Best School Awards.
