About Bongo Technical Institute

Founded in 1996 as a women's association, Bongo Technical Institute evolved into a public TVET institution. It provides hands-on practical education in fields like fashion, engineering, hospitality and construction. Absorbed into Ghana's Free TVET program in 2020, it empowers hundreds of learners for entrepreneurship and higher education.

INTRODUCTION

Bongo Technical Institute (formerly Bongo Community Development Vocational Technical Institute) is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution located in Bongo.

The institute has evolved from a community-based skills development initiative into a recognized technical institution contributing to human resource development and entrepreneurship.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The institute traces its origins to 1992 when it began as the Zaasi Women Association under the Department of Community Development. The association started with seventeen women and one female staff member. Its objectives included child-care education, employable skills training, and promoting a culture of savings. The initiative later focused strongly on dressmaking and needlework, leading to the development of vocational training. In 1996, several trainees successfully completed their training and established their own businesses with support from NBSSI.

Subsequently, the Bongo District Assembly supported the establishment of a vocational training institute and provided accommodation. Additional support from the District Assembly and UNDP included sewing machines, furniture, a gas cooker, and a refrigerator. In 2012, the current campus facility at Saabo Community, Anafobisi, was donated through arrangements involving World Vision International and the Bongo District Assembly.
