About Kpong Technical Institute

Kpong Technical Institute is a Ghana TVET Service institution in West Kpong, Eastern Region. Founded in 1992, K.T.I. offers nine accredited programs in technical and vocational trades. With 60% practical training, compulsory industry attachment, and modern workshops, we equip youth with job-ready skills for self-reliance and community development.

KPONG TECHNICAL INSTITUTE - Building Skills, Empowering Lives Since 1992 Kpong Technical Institute, K.T.I, is a reputable TVET institution under Ghana TVET Service, Ministry of Education.

Formerly known as Community Development Vocational Technical Institute-Kpong, the institute was founded in 1992 as a community mobilization project by staff of the Department of Community Development, Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. Women were trained in alternative livelihood skills including batik tie and dye, dressmaking, and other vocational trades to improve household income.

On April 4, 2002, the institute was established as the Women Training Institute, WTI, focusing on Catering and Dressmaking. It transitioned to Community Development Vocational Technical Institute on January 12, 2007, expanding into technical programs. In 2020, under the Ghana Pre-Tertiary Education Act, K.T.I moved from the Department of Community Development, Ministry of Local Government, to Ghana TVET Service, Ministry of Education.

Today it sits on 4 acres at West Kpong, a serene VRA resettlement community off the Tema-Akosombo Road. As the only institution in Lower Manya Krobo Municipality offering both vocational and technical courses, K.T.I has become a premier destination for youth seeking hands-on skills and empowerment. *Vision and Mission* Our vision is to be a best-in-class TVET provider in Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Eastern Region of Ghana.

Our mission is to promote improvement in living standards of people in rural areas and disadvantaged sections of urban communities through relevant technical and vocational education. These are guided by values of discipline, innovation, hard work, and service. Every trainee is expected to embody these values in the workshop, classroom, and community. *Academic and Training Programs* K.T.I offers nine accredited programs for employability, entrepreneurship, and further studies: 1. Automobile Engineering Technology, 2. Building and Construction, 3. Computer Hardware and Networking Technology, 4. Catering and Hospitality Management, 5. Electrical Engineering Technology, 6. Fashion Design Technology, 7. Hair Technology, 8. Plumbing and Gas Technology, 9. Wood Technology.

Training emphasizes 60% practical work and 40% theory to ensure graduates are industry-ready. Small class sizes allow instructors to give personalized coaching in workshops and labs. As part of the training program, students are attached to industry through a compulsory Workplace Experience Learning activity. This WEL exposes all learners to modern practices, tools, and workplace culture in their chosen field. By working directly with employers, students bridge classroom theory with real job demands, making them more competitive after graduation. Over three decades, K.T.I has trained thousands of artisans, seamstresses, chefs, electricians, and technicians who now run businesses across the Eastern Region and beyond.

Facilities and Student Life* The institute’s 3-acre campus has specialized workshops for all nine trade areas. Students train in cookery labs, fashion and design studios, electrical and plumbing workshops, auto mechanic bays, computer hardware labs, and carpentry workshops. This hands-on environment mirrors real workplace conditions. As a TVET institution, KTI focuses on character formation alongside technical skills.

Trainees participate in skills competitions, exhibitions, and community outreach programs where they apply their craft to serve West Kpong and surrounding towns. The serene VRA resettlement environment provides a safe, focused atmosphere for learning. *Choose K.T.I* At Kpong Technical Institute, we believe technical and vocational education is the fastest path to dignity, self-reliance, and community development.
