About Methodist Technical Institute

Methodist Technical Institute, Kwadaso was established in the year 1992. The Institute is located in the Ashanti Region in Kwadaso Municipality. The Institute offers 12 courses namely; Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Hardware, Mechanical Engineering, Welding & Fabrication, Automobile, Building Construction, Wood Construction, Fashion Design, Catering and Hospitality and Plumbing and Gas Technology under Ghana Free TVET program. It is located 100 meters from the Church of Pentecost, Kwadaso.

The Methodist Technical Institute (MTI), Kwadaso was established in 1992. The history of the institute cannot be told without mentioning Mr. Sampson Fobi [to whom House two (2) was named after], the brain behind the establishment of the institution. He was worshipping with the Bethel Methodist Church, Kwadaso before he travelled to Germany to seek greener pastures in 1979. While there, he associated himself with Mr. and Mrs. Shudder Uwe and the Lutheran Church where he appealed to the Lutheran Church about improving youth education in Ghana.
The educational request gave birth to Kwadaso Bethel Methodist School, which is now known as Methodist Technical Institute, Kwadaso, which was aimed at helping the numerous needy youth and school drop-outs in the Church and its environs. The items he requested for were carpentry tools and equipment. On granting the request, the items were brought to Bethel Methodist Church, Kwadaso in 1990.
It is worth noting that Mr. and Mrs. Shudder Uwe [to whom House three (3) was named, were leading members of the Lutheran Church, made generous and substantial contributions towards the purchase of the educational equipment. The construction of the workshop structure for the tools began in 1991 by the Bethel Methodist Church, Kwadaso under the leadership of Very Rev. Benjamin K. Asare (and subsequently, the establishment of the institute in 1992). This project was completed by Very Rev. Asua Sekyere in 1997, and subsequently, the establishment of the institute in 1998.
In 2009/2010, the Bishop of Kumasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Osei Safo Kantanka and Very Rev. Agyenim Boateng, the Superintendent Minister of Kwadaso Circuit, whilst acting on Synod’s decision, handed over the institute to the Government of Ghana for operational management by the Ghana Education Service (GES). This was when the name changed from Bethel Methodist School to Methodist Technical Institute, Kwadaso-Kumasi.
The Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana and the German counterparts led by Mr. and Mrs. Schudder have helped in ways such as the construction of the Boys’ dormitory, the construction of classrooms (MDF Block), and others.
