St. Marys Technical Institute Donkorkrom -Adeemmra was established with the aim of equipping young girls and women with required skills in Catering, Hairdressing and Fashion Designing to become self-employed and to earn a living. It was established as a private Institute in 1999 and was absorbed by the Government of Ghana in the year 2010. The institution has put in place well structured environment to equip many people in various trade areas such as Fashion and Catering through competency- based Training ( CBT). The institution is situated in the Kwahu Afram Plains North, specifically, Adeemmra Kwahu, a Town near the District Capital - Donkorkrom. The school can be reached outside the Plains through either Kpando- Tokor in the Volta Region or Kwahu - Adawso in the Eastern Region by boat or ferry. The need to establish a Vocational and Technical Institute in a deprived area like the Kwahu North ( Afram Plains) district could not be overlooked by the pioneer missionaries of the society of the Divine Word, SVD, a religious society made up of priest ( Reverend Fathers) and lay brothers ( Reverend Brothers) within the catholic church, who came to evangelize the inhabitants of this remote area in the early 1940's. The idea became a reality during a parish council meeting at Abomasarefo in 1998, under the auspices of Rev. Fr. Joseph Pitchler, SVD, the then Parish priest of St. Marys Parish, Adeemmra, a resolution was passed and a committe was set under the chairmanship of Mr. Aikins George, a teacher and assistant catechist of Adeemmra, to prepare the modalities for the birth of this noble institution. The institution was temporarily offered some classrooms at the JHS and through the benevolence of the Kwahu Afram Plains District Assembly, an unused building was donated to the Institute to be used as a hostel now a boarding house. Later, the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua acquired a parcel of land for the Construction of permanent structures which started in 2003 with funds from overseas donors. Currently, the Institute has moved to its permanent site. The school was officially opened on lst March 1999 by Rev Fr. Paul Pio, SVD who succeeded Fr. Joseph Pitchler with a student population of 15 and a moderate staff of three namely; Mary Asantewaa, Hairdressing tutor, Rita Lino, Fashion tutor and Lino Esther, the acting Principal. Miss Lino Esther was succeeded by Rev. Sr. Angelina Gerhaz as acting Principal from 2005 to 2009. Rev Sr. Lamisi Adomolgo, SSpS took over as Principal until the school was absorbed by the Government of Ghana in 2010 and since operated as a day and boarding Institute approved by GES. The current Principal, Rev. Sr. Elizabeth Biga SSpS, took over from Sr. Lamisi as Principal from 2013 to date. The school currently runs 9 programmes.
