About Suhum Technical Institute

Suhum Technical Institute, established in 1964 by Mr. J. C. Amoah, began as a Rural Training Centre for women. It evolved through several name changes, expanding programmes to include technical and vocational courses. Today, under Ghana’s TVET reforms, it provides skills training for youth and contributes significantly to workforce development.

Profile of Suhum Technical Institute
Suhum Technical Institute is a government-owned Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution located in Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana, adjacent to Suhum Presbyterian Senior High School. The Institute is committed to providing quality technical and vocational education aimed at equipping young people with practical, employable, and entrepreneurial skills for national development.
Established in 1964 under the leadership of Mr. J. C. Amoah, the Institute has undergone significant transformation over the years in response to changing educational and labour market demands. From its beginnings as a Rural Training Centre focused on skills training for women, it has evolved into a modern technical institute offering structured programmes for both male and female students. Today, it operates under Ghana’s TVET framework, emphasizing Competency-Based Training (CBT) to ensure graduates are industry-ready.
The Institute offers a wide range of programmes, including Cookery, Dressmaking, Hairdressing, Secretarialship, Computer Science, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Building and Construction. These programmes are designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, preparing students for employment, self-employment, and further education.
Suhum Technical Institute is equipped with essential training facilities, including workshops, classrooms, and an ICT laboratory that supports both teaching and income-generating activities. The school environment is spacious and conducive to learning, enabling the effective delivery of both short-term and long-term training programmes.
The Institute maintains strong linkages with industry and stakeholders to ensure its training remains relevant to current market needs. Through partnerships, industrial attachments, and practical exposure, students gain valuable experience that enhances their employability.
Guided by its vision to produce skilled and competent manpower for industry, the Institute upholds core values such as excellence, discipline, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and lifelong learning. These values shape both academic delivery and student character development.
With nearly six decades of continuous service, Suhum Technical Institute has made significant contributions to human capital development in Ghana. It remains committed to expanding access, improving quality, and strengthening its role as a leading TVET institution dedicated to skills development and national growth.
