Established in 1964 under the leadership of Mr. J. C. Amoah, the Institute has undergone significant transformation over the years in response to changing educational and labour market demands. From its beginnings as a Rural Training Centre focused on skills training for women, it has evolved into a modern technical institute offering structured programmes for both male and female students. The Institute offers a wide range of programmes, including Cookery, Dressmaking, Hairdressing, Secretarialship, Computer Science, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Building and Construction. These programmes are designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, preparing students for employment, self-employment, and further education.
Suhum Technical Institute is equipped with essential training facilities, including workshops, classrooms, and an ICT laboratory that supports both teaching and income-generating activities. The school environment is spacious and conducive to learning, enabling the effective delivery of both short-term and long-term training programmes.
The Institute maintains strong linkages with industry and stakeholders to ensure its training remains relevant to current market needs. Through partnerships, industrial attachments, and practical exposure, students gain valuable experience that enhances their employability.
Guided by its vision to produce skilled and competent manpower for industry, the Institute upholds core values such as excellence, discipline, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and lifelong learning. These values shape both academic delivery and student character development.
With nearly six decades of continuous service, Suhum Technical Institute has made significant contributions to human capital development in Ghana.
