About Suntreso Technical Institute

Suntreso Technical Institute (STI) is a proud Public TVET Institute under the Ghana TVET Service and duly accredited by the Commission for TVET and the Energy Commission of Ghana. We lead with 50years experience in practical skills training; and so far trained over 80,000 youth.

1.0 Introduction
Established in 1976, Suntreso Technical Institute (STI) is a Government Technical/Vocational Institute of the Ministry of Education and directly operating under the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service (Ghana TVET Service). STI is strategically located in the Kumasi Metropolis with a current student’s population of 638 and a staff strength of 72. The school’s total land size is 4.6acres.

To provide the youth with quality and innovative Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills that meets the industry standards.

To emerge as the most outstanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute within the Ghana TVET Service fraternity that adopts best practices and Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) approaches in its skills training delivery.

• Mainstream: Junior High School (JHS) graduates.
• Part -Time/Open School Programme: Workers, Senior High School (SHS) graduates and other individuals.

6.0 Skills Training, Support Services and Resource Mobilization Activities
Mainstream skills training which is a 3year Programme is designed for Junior High School (JHS) graduates who get directly enrolled into the school through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) under the “Free TVET for All” Programme, whiles the part time training is basically organized between 3-6months mainly for workers, Senior High School (SHS) graduates and other individuals who wish to acquire skills training. Mainstream students sit for the Commission for TVET(CTVET) Certificate II Examinations. Part time students sit for the Proficiency Examinations.

6.1 Career Guidance and Counseling
The school has a well-resourced counseling unit with qualified personnel who provide both career guidance & counseling interventions for students. The purpose of the counseling programmes is to provide students with supportive learning environment to succeed academically, socially and emotionally; and also to equip students with the requisite counseling tools that will aide TVET graduates’ job acquisition and their ability to surmount future life challenges after completion of training.

6.2 Workplace Experience Learning (WEL)
In order to expose students to the practical industry experience as prescribed by the TVET Service, students undergo 10 -11 weeks Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) in various WEL collaborating industries every year as part of the academic calendar. Currently, the school is partnering with more than 100 industries for the WEL Programme. Since its implementation in year 2023, about 480 students have so far benefitted from the WEL.

The available income generation ventures/services being undertaken by the Institute are:
• Catering Services
• Sewing of school uniforms
• Block Molding/Production
• Plumbing and Electrical Works
• 3-6months part-time fee-paying training in all the seven (7) programmes
• 3 months part-time fee-paying training in Energy Commission Professional Electrical Wiring Certification (i.e Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Levels) for Electricians.

Major Achievements

1. Won the CTVET Ghana Skills Development Fund Grant in 2024 to implement a CBT Module for Greening Fabric Waste through Sustainable Swatch Product Manufacturing 2. Under the TVET Voucher Project, the Institute in collaboration with the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) provided CBT training in Electricals Installation (NP1) to 100 GECA members between the period May, 2024 – April, 2025.
