About Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute

Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute is a mixed-gender, Category C technical and vocational school in Sunyani, Bono Region, Ghana, offering both day and boarding facilities. It provides diverse programmes in engineering, business, fashion, hospitality, and construction trades, preparing students with practical skills for industry and entrepreneurship.

Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute, formerly Methodist Vocational Institute, Sunyani, was situated at New Town Extension near Point Four Hotel, Sunyani. It was established in 1992 by the District Chairman, Rev. Asua Sekyere of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Sunyani District. The Vocational School was started at the old Chapel of the Wesley Methodist Church before moving to New Town Extension (Methodist cluster of schools). It was established to train a few youth in the church to acquire the necessary skills to start a vocation. It was later expanded to include other young men and women in the Municipality and surrounding towns and villages to acquire skills in Carpentry, Masonry, Electrical Installation, Catering, and Fashion Design. In 2010, the Methodist Vocational Institute was absorbed into the mainstream Government Technical Institutions in Ghana. Hence, its name changed to Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute. In January 2016, Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute relocated to its permanent site at Baakoniaba. The following have been the Principals of the Institute since 1996: 1. Rev. Samuel Kwebu Dadzie (1996-2007) 2. Rev. Benjamin Oppong-Kyekyeku (2007-2011) 3. Ernest Kagya Bediako (2011-2014) 4. Clifford Kofi Insaidoo (2014-2024) 5. Ms Evelyn Konadu-Boaten (2025 - date) Between 1992, when the Institute was established, and 1996, the administration of the Institute was in the hands of the Methodist Church, Ghana, John Eizenberg (Missionary Society), and Charles Maddock (General Board of Global Ministries). Achievements & Recognition

Major Achievements

In 2015, Mr. Abraham Katakyi, a teacher in the Electrical Department, won the Best National Technical Teacher award, and the school was also adjudged the third-best technical school in the region. Madam Cynthia Twumasi, a teacher in the Electrical Department, also won the best National Teacher in 2016. The school was also adjudged the second-best technical school in Ghana. The Institute received a plaque and twenty (20) laptops as its prize.
